Ferries in Malta
Although the city buses are great for getting around Malta, if you want to explore Gozo and Comino, you'll need to get a ferry.
Cirkewwa Ferry Terminal is the port of departure from Malta. It's located on the northwestern tip of the island. Ferries depart from there for the two neighbouring islands. It's a fairly large ferry, with room for hundreds of passengers, and a car depot for cars to travel between the Maltese Islands.
The port of arrival in Gozo is Mgarr. The journey between Malta and the two islands takes less than 30 minutes and the boat has a passenger deck, toilets, wifi and a cafe.
Fares and frequency
The return journey from Malta to Gozo is € 4.65 (US$ 4.88) round trip and takes just 30 minutes. The fare to Comino is around € 10 (US$ 10.50) return. If you plan to rent a car in Malta, you also have the option of taking it from one island to another by ferry for € 20 (US$ 21).
The frequency of ferries is 45 minutes approximately, although at peak times you can find boats every 20 minutes. Normally, after 8 pm, the frequency of ferries decreases considerably.
Our advice
If you're travelling to Gozo in good weather, we recommend going onto the outside terrace of the ferry during the journey to enjoy unique views of Comino from the sea.
Ferries run throughout the day but keep in mind that the frequency is lower in the evenings and late afternoons.
