Malta International Airport

Malta International Airport

The main airline operating out of Malta Airport is Air Malta, which offers flights to all major European capitals.

Malta International Airport (MLA) is located between the towns of Gudja and Luqa, about 10 kilometres (6.2 miles) from the capital. It's the only airport in the country and is also known as Luqa Airport or Valletta Airport.

More than 30 airlines operate out of the airport, which handles around 6 million passengers a year. The main airlines connecting Malta with other European cities include Iberia, EasyJet, Air Malta and Lufthansa.

How to get from Malta Airport to Valletta?

There are several ways to get to Malta's capital from the airport:

Car rental

The most convenient way to get around Malta is to rent a car and drive around at your own pace. Many companies set the drop-off point at the airport itself, so you can drive to Valletta or to the city you're staying in.

Transfers

If you don't want to hire a car but want to get to the hotel comfortably and quickly, the best option is to book a transfer service directly from the airport. The price varies depending on the number of passengers and the final destination. The main advantage is that it's a door-to-door service, so you don't have to worry about timetables and connections.

Bus

There are 4 direct bus lines connect with Malta Airport: X1, X2, X3 and X4. Each one connects the airport with an area of the island of Malta, so we recommend checking the route of each line once you're at the airport. This is the cheapest option.
